Bangkok was nothing like I imagined. I expected big tall buildings crowding out the sky. Thick brown smog. Crazy traffic that would make crossing a street life threatening. Constant harrassment from hawkers, hookers and con men.
For all I know there may be parts of the city like that. But the scene in this photo seemed pretty typical. We met some extremely nice people in our very short stay.
I remember the three gals who made us a wood fired pizza. They were so warm and friendly to us the very casual encounter is etched in my memory.
And as far as crossing the street--it felt safer to me than back home! It was somehow very clear that no one wanted to kill you and that they would go to extrordinary lengths to avoid running you over. I wish I could feel that way here in Santa Rosa!
